IMEX America 2026: what event pros should actually put on their agenda
Heading to IMEX America 2026? Get the essential guide to Smart Monday, education sessions, event tech, networking, exhibitors and planning your time at IMEX Las Vegas.
If you've been to IMEX before, you already know the basic rule: don't arrive expecting to casually “have a look around.”
You will have a calendar full of meetings by 10am, thousands of exhibitors to navigate, education sessions you want to attend, people you promised you'd catch up with, and approximately 47 coffees you'll somehow need to consume.
We've actually been around this particular block before. Our first IMEX experience was IMEX America 2024, and we came away from the show with more than 40 high-impact meetings with event organisers.
Two years later, we're looking at IMEX America 2026 with a slightly different question: what's actually worth your time now?
IMEX America 2026 takes place October 13–15 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, with Smart Monday, powered by MPI, on October 12. IMEX describes the show as the largest trade show for the global meetings, events and incentive travel industry, with 3,700+ exhibitors from 80+ countries and 300+ education sessions over four days. (IMEX America)
So, if you're heading to IMEX America 2026, here's how I'd approach it.
First: don't skip Smart Monday
Smart Monday is on October 12, the day before the trade show opens, and it's a full day of free professional education powered by MPI. (IMEX America show information)
This is one of those things that's easy to treat as “optional” when you're planning your trip.
I'd reconsider that.
IMEX's 2026 education programme spans 12 tracks, covering areas including event logistics, experiential event design, marketing and engagement, tech innovation and AI, leadership and culture, trends and research, wellbeing and impact. The full 2026 education programme is scheduled to go live in September. (IMEX America education tracks)
If you're already going to be in Las Vegas, getting an extra day of learning before the show floor opens isn't exactly a bad deal.
This year's big idea: Design Matters
IMEX's 2026–2027 Talking Point is Design Matters.

And it's broader than simply making an event look nice.
IMEX is framing design as a differentiator: how experiences work, feel and help organisations, brands and events stand out and be remembered. (IMEX America: Design Matters)
That makes this particularly interesting for event marketers.
Because when everyone is competing for attention, “good enough” event experiences are becoming very easy to forget.
The 2026 education programme includes dedicated tracks for Design Matters and Experiential Event Design, alongside Marketing and Engagement and Tech Enabled Futures. (IMEX America education tracks)
Worth paying attention to.
The sessions and education tracks I'd put on the list
Here's the important bit before you start building your IMEX America 2026 agenda: the full 2026 education programme is not live yet. IMEX says it will go live in September. (IMEX America education tracks)
So rather than pretending we have a final list of must-attend sessions months ahead of the show, I'd start with the education tracks that look most relevant to event marketers and organisers.

Marketing and Engagement
This is an obvious one if you're responsible for getting people to an event — and getting them to care about it once they're there.
IMEX says this track will cover social media storytelling, digital marketing, audience traction, registrations, revenue and community building. (IMEX America education tracks)
That's the kind of programming I'd watch closely, particularly if you're trying to connect event marketing activity with what happens after someone registers.
Tech Enabled Futures
Yes, AI is going to be everywhere.
But this track is broader than just another round of “AI is changing everything.” It covers event technology, process transformation, learning systems and AI, including agentic AI, with a focus on practical insights and real-world case studies. (IMEX America education tracks)
That's the AI conversation I'd prioritise: what can actually be applied Otherwise, you may as well save yourself the walk between sessions and ask your chatbot.
Design Matters
If you're interested in brand experience, differentiation or creating events people remember, this is another obvious stop.
IMEX says the track will explore brand differentiation, design-forward experiences and how to stand out in a crowded global marketplace. (IMEX America education tracks)
Experiential Event Design
This track looks at immersive design, emotion, impact, behavioural science and the practical side of creating memorable experiences that can still be economically viable and scalable. (IMEX America education tracks)
And honestly, “memorable but still commercially sensible” is a pretty good brief for an event.
And then there's the show floor
This is where IMEX gets serious.
The official 2026 exhibitor lineup includes 3,700+ exhibitors from 80+ countries, covering destinations, venues, hotels, technology providers and a huge range of event suppliers. (IMEX America show information)
Don't try to see everyone. Seriously.
If you arrive with the mission of “walking the whole floor,” you'll leave with a sore pair of feet and approximately 600 business cards you cannot remember collecting. Instead, make a shortlist.
Who do you actually want to meet?
Which destinations are relevant to your upcoming events?
Which event-tech companies are worth checking out?
Which suppliers are solving problems you're currently dealing with?
Then leave room for the unexpected.
Some of the best discoveries at IMEX happen when you wander into a conversation you didn't plan for.
Networking is a feature, not a side activity
IMEX has a pretty serious infrastructure around meetings.
The official meeting system lets attendees manage schedules, make and reschedule individual meetings, message people and view the attendee list. (IMEX America meeting scheduling)
Use it. But don't turn your entire IMEX experience into back-to-back appointments. Leave gaps.
Grab a coffee with someone you just met. Stay for the conversation after a session. Walk the floor without a destination for an hour.
We saw this firsthand at IMEX Frankfurt earlier this year, when we finally ran into Julius Solaris. Our 2024 IMEX America experience had actually mentioned that we'd missed the chance to meet him, so getting that conversation at Frankfurt was a particularly nice full-circle moment. (IMEX Frankfurt 2026)
That's the thing about IMEX. You can plan every meeting down to the minute, but some of the best conversations are the ones you didn't schedule.
And yes, there is fun
This is Las Vegas, after all.
IMEX has networking and social experiences built around the show, alongside the education and exhibition programme. The official site describes the event as offering education, networking and more across the four-day programme. (IMEX America)
So don't make the rookie mistake of booking every waking minute. You'll need some energy left for the part of IMEX that happens after the sessions.
How I'd plan my IMEX America 2026
I'd split the four-day experience into four simple jobs: learn, explore, connect and follow up.
Monday: If you're in town, do Smart Monday. Pick one or two education areas that actually matter to your work instead of spending the whole day answering emails. If you're eligible and attending Association Focus, that's also on October 12. (Association Focus at IMEX America)
Tuesday: Get the big picture. Explore the show floor, attend your priority education sessions and start working through your most important meetings.
Wednesday: Go deeper. This is when I'd focus on specific technology, design, attendee-experience and marketing conversations — and leave some time for the people you've met.
Thursday: Don't try to “finish” IMEX. You won't. The show is open until 4pm, so use the final hours to follow up on the best conversations, revisit anything you genuinely need to see and make the most of the final few hours. (IMEX America show information)
If I were attending, here's my shortlist
I'd keep it pretty simple:
- Smart Monday education
- The Design Matters programme
- Marketing and Engagement sessions
- At least one Tech Enabled Futures session
- Something from Experiential Event Design
- A few carefully selected exhibitors rather than trying to see everyone
- Pre-booked meetings with the people who actually matter to your goals
- Plenty of unplanned networking time
- And at least one evening where the schedule says absolutely nothing
Because here's the thing we've noticed from IMEX conversations before:
The programme gets you there. The people are what keep you there.
And increasingly, attendees aren't just judging an event by the keynote or the venue. They're judging it by whether the experience gave them something worth remembering — a useful idea, a valuable connection, a new perspective, or simply a moment they want to share.
That's where the real value of an event starts.
And that's probably the best mindset to take into IMEX America 2026.
One last piece of advice
Don't schedule yourself into oblivion. We've all done it. We've all regretted it by about 2:30pm on day one.
Use the official IMEX meeting system to get the important conversations in the diary, but leave enough space for the things you couldn't have planned for. (IMEX America meeting scheduling)
We've written about surviving IMEX America, we've experienced the show floor firsthand, and we've come back from IMEX Frankfurt with plenty of conversations still rattling around in our heads. The 2024 guide is still useful if you want the practical survival basics; this one is about deciding what deserves your attention in 2026. (IMEX America 2024: Ultimate Survival Guide for Event Pros)
If there's one thing those experiences have reinforced, it's this: IMEX isn't really about how many sessions you attended or how many booths you managed to visit.
It's about the conversations you have, the ideas you pick up, the people you unexpectedly run into and the things you take back to your own events.
That's what we'd keep in mind heading into IMEX America 2026.
